Jim Birrell is an experienced professional photographer who has worked full time in his chosen profession for over 28 years. Jim opened his first studio in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1984. Then in 1989 he sold the studio and moved with his family to Omaha, Nebraska and began working as a staff photographer for the University of Nebraska Medical Center. When state budget cuts forced the closure of the photography department in 2003, Jim was ready and excited to become a small business owner once again.
Jim is also a long time teacher of Photography and Photojournalism at Omaha's Metropolitan Community College. As an instructor, he has trained many of his colleagues and enjoys an excellent reputation because of his professionalism and knowledge of his craft.
Jim's work at UNMC not only gave him a solid foundation for medical photography; it also brought him in contact with individuals who were facing unique personal challenges. As a result, he is exacting in his need for quality but composed and easy-going with people. When you are stressed -- and who isn't when planning a wedding, dealing with the myriad of details required for an annual report, preparing for a court case or just getting three children ready for a family portrait -- Jim brings his composure and fun attitude to the task. He helps you be successful and reduces the stress.
Jim utilizes the best and newest technologies in his photographic endeavors. He is highly experienced with both film and digital techniques and uses his knowledge to create the superior portraits you demand.
